Our Philosophy
Swimming is a life long skill and your first experience on a swim team should be positive, fun, educational, and exciting. While still competitive – the goal of the Summer Swim Team is to grow the swimmer’s joy and love for the sport.
Practice length with depend on age and ability, and will focus on distances swum within the ARPA system (25s – 100s). We’ll have game days, team socials, and other fun experiences all while working hard and making lifelong friends.
IMPORTANT: This program follows ARPA rules and main competition focus will be the ARPA District and State Meets in July. We do host and attend several swim meet in towards the end of May and into June, but to swim at the ARPA District and ARPA State Meet for Opelika Swim Team you must be an Opelika resident, attend school in Opelika, or Opelika needs to be the nearest city with a swim team if your city does not.

Sign up Requirements:
In order to join the summer swim team the swimmer needs to be able to swim 1 lap freestyle (25 yards) unassisted. Swimmers not able to swim the lap freestyle should sign up for Summer Blast Swim Lessons (registration opens May 9th for swim lessons).
Evaluations:
Evaluation Dates are are TBD in APRIL. Evaluations are for new swimmers only.
Swimmers who have been on swim team previously (including Pups pre team), attended CAMP OST, or completed level 4 of Opelika Swim School do not need to take the swim test.
Practice Requirements:
Swimmers are encouraged to attend 2-3 practices per week.
General Practice Schedule:
May 3rd – May 26th (Kids still in school).
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30.
There will also be practice on Saturday May 7th and May 14th
May 31st – July 23rd (Kids out of School).
10 and Under: Monday – Thursday 4:30 – 6:00
11 and Over: Monday – Thursday 6:00 – 7:30
Summer Meets would be on Thursday afternoons and the occasional Saturday.
Meet Requirements:
Swimmer are required to attend a minimum of 2 meets each summer. Meets are scheduled for Thursday afternoons in June with an occasional Saturday.
For Thursday meets: Warm Ups start at 3:00 – Racing starts at 4:00. Swimmers should always arrive 10-15 minutes prior to warm ups starting.

District Swim Meet: July 9th at Valley
State Swim Meet: July 22-23 hosted by Opelika!
Parent Meeting / Volunteer Requirements:
Parent Meeting TBD. This is a mandatory meeting and will be scheduled for after registration closes May 13th.
COST
The cost for summers swim team is 150.00. This covers all practices from May – July. Athletes will also receive swim cap and t-shirt.
